Stories at the Great Northeastern War

Stories. I realized this weekend that our events are created around stories. A great great grand laurel tells a tale of failure and regret and salvation. A bard sings a parable of friendship, family and breaking bread. A woman shares a secret of long lost love not quite yet found while another faces fears of violence and mistrust. Old friends reconnect over shared memories and new ones are formed over found connections. Stories crafted through laughter and song, food and drink, sword and scroll. Perhaps some are embellished. Some are truer than we’d like to admit. Stories stand the test of time. Stories bridge the differences and break down the walls. Stories bring us together time and time again. Would we keep coming back if there were no stories to share, tales to tell, or puns to ponder? I hope we never have to find out.

Thank you to all who joined us for a story or two at the Great Northeastern War. I look forward to our next tale.

Something fishy this way comes….

Something is rotten in the Shire of Hadchester. It may be only a red herring, but I smell something fishy. I don’t want to open a can of worms, but I will take the bait cast and meet their armies on the field of battle to balance the scales. Join us at The Great Northeastern War in The Province of Malagentia on July 12 through the 15th, AS LIII for a fight that will be off the hook!

GNEW BATTLEFIELD SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

Lords and Ladies, lads and lasses, all gentles who enjoy the fun and excitement of the battlefield but don’t enjoy participating in the fighting – The Battlefield Support staff would love to have you join them! Battlefield Support – or “waterbearing” – provides water, gatorade, pickles, oranges, and other potables to comfort the overheated who have taken up arms to entertain us on the battlefields, in the rapier list, and on the archery and thrown weapons ranges. We will meet under the MOL tent (between the Heavy List and Rapier fields) half an hour prior to the beginning of heavy list activities (including Friday for The Deed and the Summer Druid vs. Winter Witch). We will have a brief cleanup after the tournament to prepare our station for the next events. Come for as little or as long as you like – many hands make light work, and we love to make new friends. Children are most welcome, but must be supervised by someone aged 16 or older. Unattended children who tire of volunteering will be escorted to Youth Activities for safekeeping. If you’re interested in volunteering, if you would like more information before committing, or if you need special accommodation, please contact Lady Anna Serena (Serena Antonowicz) or Lady Rose Copper Steele (Cecilia Hunter). They’ll be thrilled to meet you!

Wanna run an event?

Think about submitting bids for future events! Yule will be coming up before we know it (she says as the temperatures rise towards 90 degrees) and how fantastic would it be to announce the autocrat for GNE XXXII at GNE XXXI! Submit your bids at http://malagentia.eastkingdom.org/main/?p=158

A Largesse Competition…

As the might of many armies prepare themselves for the coming war we hear that our siblings to the South are still not getting the amount of attention that they crave. Even after committing their parent to fight a war over their irresponsible actions they still crave more. This injustice disheartens us so much that this past weekend the Incipient Riding of Ravensbridge decided to challenge Giggleswick in a sibling rivalry. A rivalry of largesse, a competition meant to show off the wares of the East as well as to fill the King’s and Queen’s coffers with gifts for whomever they deem worthy. This competition will be broken down into three primary categories: Favors, Toys for the toy chest, and Gifts / Tokens. All items will be awarded on a point system, with extra points being awarded for period objects and embellishments. In order to prove our artisans spirit we will be awarding points to a max of (10) samples per “pattern”. The great thing about this competition is that it is open to everyone who wants to help. You can donate your gifts to assist your favorite Riding in winning this largesse competition. By getting your creations to the corresponding Seneschal of Ravensbridge or Giggleswick before the deadline. All items need to be turned in no later than Saturday morning at GNEW. Let’s show the King and Queen a sampling of our wares in the East. Thank You in advance.

Lord Morty
Seneschal of the Riding of Ravensbridge

***SCHTICK DISCLAIMER: This is said entirely tongue in cheek and is meant as fun for the upcoming war. We truly love our fellow Scadians in Ravensbridge and are looking forward to a great challenge to fill the coffers of Our Majesties.
