Tuesday Night Practices cancelled until further notice – USM Gym closed to public

March 12, 2020

To whom it may concern,

In response to the rapidly growing impact of COVID-19 on the global population, including yesterday’s declaration of a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the University of Maine System will begin to implement a social isolation strategy. As you may have heard, all classes will move from in-person to online beginning March 23, 2020 and all residential students will be sent home. While the offices will remain open (at this point), USM will begin to strengthen the social isolation strategy by restricting access to our fitness center and athletic complex to USM faculty, staff and students ONLY. The hours for the fitness center and building will change and are below.

Due to this unprecedented situation, we will be placing your memberships on hold effective Saturday, March 14, 2020 until this health crisis has passed or we will provide a pro-rated refund to you if that is your wish. We apologize for this inconvenience, but as you know, some things are simply out of our control and we must take appropriate precautions. We will notify you as soon as we are able to safely re-open our facilities for use and welcome people back to the Sullivan Complex. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. You can reach me directly at 207-228-8242 or by email at ().

Sincerely,

Kevin Normand, Manager of Sullivan Complex

Nominate someone for a Provincial Honor!

Did you know that the Province of Malagentia has its own way to recognize worthy members? Our Provincial Honors allow us to say “Thank you!” to those who have given back to Malagentia in the areas of Service, Martial, Courtesy, Youth, and Arts & Sciences. It only takes a couple minutes to recommend someone for an Honor! There will be a couple Provincial events coming up where we can bestow some of these, so recommend someone today!!! Visit https://malagentia.eastkingdom.org/main/provincial-honors/ to learn more about the Provincial Honors and recommend someone.

Thank you!!

GNEW BATTLEFIELD SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS WANTED!

Lords and Ladies, lads and lasses, all gentles who enjoy the fun and excitement of the battlefield but don’t enjoy participating in the fighting – The Battlefield Support staff would love to have you join them! Battlefield Support – or “waterbearing” – provides water, gatorade, pickles, oranges, and other potables to comfort the overheated who have taken up arms to entertain us on the battlefields, in the rapier list, and on the archery and thrown weapons ranges. We will meet under the MOL tent (between the Heavy List and Rapier fields) half an hour prior to the beginning of heavy list activities (including Friday for The Deed and the Summer Druid vs. Winter Witch). We will have a brief cleanup after the tournament to prepare our station for the next events. Come for as little or as long as you like – many hands make light work, and we love to make new friends. Children are most welcome, but must be supervised by someone aged 16 or older. Unattended children who tire of volunteering will be escorted to Youth Activities for safekeeping. If you’re interested in volunteering, if you would like more information before committing, or if you need special accommodation, please contact Lady Anna Serena (Serena Antonowicz) or Lady Rose Copper Steele (Cecilia Hunter). They’ll be thrilled to meet you!

Great Northeastern War in the News

If you paid close attention at this year’s Great Northeastern War, you noticed a few people being escorted around site toting cameras.  They were reporters from the Lewiston Sun Journal who put together a couple of lovely pieces about the event.

One piece focused more on martial activities and featured still photos and video of the fighting and other activities that took place over the weekend as well as spotlight interviews with Astrid, Cailte, Raiztlin and Carolyne.

Another piece opened with a dancer and took a more holistic approach to the event in a well-produced 2 and 3/4 minute video that described many of the non-martial activities that took place while still managing to catch a bit of the action from the fencing tavern brawl.

Three cheers to our hard-working Chatelaine, Seneschal and Deputy Seneschal who worked hard to give these journalists access to our event so that the fun we have could be documented for the rest of the state to see.
