Welcome to the Province of Malagentia, a division of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) local to the Southern Maine area.
The SCA is a group that loves to learn about, explore, and actively recreate the best parts of Middle Ages history (roughly 400-1600 AD).
Throughout the SCA, and definitely here in Malagentia, we strive for inclusion and accessibility for everyone who is interested in learning and playing along.
To get more information on what we do and getting started, contact our Newcomer Guide, or “Chatelaine” at Chatelaine@malagentia.eastkingdom.org.
So what do we do?
One of the things this group does the best is teach, and learn together and from one another. This means there are classes and interactive groups/practices on just about anything you can think of; from calligraphy, dancing and illumination to fencing, archery and heavy-armor fighting, from cooking and camp building to glass blowing, metal work and pottery. All aspects of medieval daily life are explored, taught, and learned, and here in Malagentia, we make these classes easy to attend by being right here near you, in Southern Maine.
We are ready to work with you, whether you’re an individual, group of friends or a family with children of all ages – we promise to share our passion for history with you!
So now what?
If you are interested in Medieval history, want to pursue a class or practice, or just want to be immersed in 1,200 years of art, science, food, music, and pomp and pageantry then this is the place for you! Events can vary from a weekly evening practice or group craft night, to 1- day, weekend, or week- long events, with some being camping friendly. Please see our calendar for a full list of events and practices!
Interested but unsure where to start? Email our New Member Coordinator (We call that person our “Chatelaine”) for more information! We are here to make sure you have everything you need as you get started on your exploration of Medieval history.
